Frank “Shortie” Waldroup, 87, of Marietta, GA, formerly of Hayesville, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 in a Murphy medical center. He was a native of Clay County, but had lived in Marietta for over 50 years. He was the son of the late Wayne C. and Phenie Groves Waldroup. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army in the European Theatre. He retired after more than 30 years of service with Lockheed Aircraft. Frank was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Smyrna, GA. His hobbies included woodworking and raising miniature horses.

He was survived for one day by his wife of 61 years, Helen Carringer Waldroup. Surviving are two sisters, Mary Stowe of Parker, PA and Phyllis Barnard of Hayesville; three brothers, Harry and Don Waldroup both of Karns City, PA, and Chuck Waldroup of Chicora, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

A double funeral service for Frank C. and Helen C. Waldroup was held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, Aug. 19 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Marvin Frady officiating. Interment was in the Sunset Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 96, D.A.V. Chapter 73, V.F.W Post 10222, and the Hayesville V.F.W Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol). Pallbearers were Chuck Stowe, Mike Duncan, Bud Wimpey, Robert Anderson, Larry Groves, and Henry Stevens.

The family received friends from 12-1:45 PM Tuesday at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Frank “Shortie” Waldroup to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
